Rick’s Righting: October 9, 2020

From the Pastor

Generally, we do not dress up like we did in the past. But we still like to look nice and put on what we consider to be proper attire for an occasion. Admittedly, sometimes it is vanity, sometimes respect for our host or maybe a little of both. But we try, in our own way, using our own fashion sense. We are after all, individuals, with our own wardrobe, and taste. In the kingdom of heaven, it is not about what we wear but that we care enough to participate in God’s life for us.

In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus tells a story of grace, acceptance, and caring about the kingdom of heaven and our invitation to join in the celebration. It’s a curious story about a wedding invitation, those who reject the offer, those who are unexpectedly invited and graciously accept, and even one who just shows up without attempting to dress for the occasion. This one accepts the food and drink but makes no effort to participate or dress for the occasion. Kind of a wedding crasher.

We know that our salvation is a celebrated life of growth and resurrection.  While the invitation is free, Jesus makes clear we should participate in the celebration, show up out of love and respect. What are we willing to show up for, put some time aside, and care enough to participate and celebrate in?

Confused? See you Sunday morning!

May the Grace and Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!
