Rick’s Righting: April 16, 2021

From the Pastor

It’s hard to believe but it is going on two years since Tracie and I had the joy and privilege to take a trip to England. We went on what was called, “The Wesleyan Heritage Tour.” We traveled across England, following in the footsteps of the Wesley family as they played an integral part in what is referred to as The Great Awakening, and of course the founding of the Methodist movement. To be in the actual towns and churches somehow brought to life the story and ministry of the Wesley brothers. I know that many of you have taken a tour of the Holy Land and expressed nothing less than awe at being in the places where Jesus lived, died, and was resurrected. There is something in us that is drawn to the physical earthly place where great events have happened. We are emotionally and spiritually attached to this wonderful physical creation of God. Thankfully, God is also attached to creation including the people who have lived, live and will live within it. Hence, we have the promise of the Resurrection, body and soul.

In our Christian faith, we are reminded of the resurrection and enjoy great hope and peace in this promise of life from our Creator, our God. As none of us have experienced the Resurrection, we can find it difficult to explain or even understand. Over the generations, many different interpretations of this gift of life have been put forth. Some ideas voiced are better than others, and some downright contrary to Christian teaching and scripture.

This Sunday, we will look at this great gift of God through Jesus Christ and try and to work out some of the good and not so good understandings.

May the Grace and Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!
