From the Pastor

Negotiating the outdoors can be a little sticky; challenging is more accurate. Behind closed doors or the doors of the church, we hear God speak, then, like they used to say “Elvis has left the building.” Elvis Presley was the king of his world, the biggest name in the early years of rock ’n’ roll. He was loved by many and was financially secure. But it was different when he went outside. The adoring crowds, paparazzi, and fame made it impossible to live a peaceful life like a regular guy. So, I don’t know anybody who has that kind of problem. The problem of being mobbed by adoring fans and having every move photographed and published. But there may be more similarities than we think.

On Sunday, the last song is sung, the light is carried out, church is over, and we leave the building. We leave the building into a world that cares little about what we have learned or experienced in church. We exit the building and are quickly concerned with our daily struggles or our position in life. We call it the real world. The Way, Truth, and Life of Jesus, following the words of wisdom that challenge our way of thinking about people and world, lose importance. We hear the lesson, we walk out the door, and much of what we have been given is lost. Life is a challenge, no doubt about it, but God offers a better way.

Join us Sunday as we look at our challenges and opportunities that life and Jesus Christ offer each of us.

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!
