A Word from Rick: January 28, 2023

notes on the Bible
Rick Davis

I love to worship, sing, and pray to the Lord my God if for no other reason than the Lord is my creator and gave me life. We are Trinitarian believers. In one God, we worship the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But sometimes, it’s Jesus, the Christ of God, that captures and comforts me in his mystery and love. Of course, the atoning self-sacrifice for the salvation of humanity is certainly enough to bring out a lifetime of praise and worship. But, within each of us, is there a special spot in our heart of hearts for Jesus the Christ? Not above Father and Spirit, but special. Something that stands out and brings comfort to our souls. I think it is a personal question that is good for the soul of Christians. I have found the question may bring me deeper into contemplation about God and who I am and that the Lord could care so much. I find it very humbling.

The Incarnation, fully God and fully human, born, crucified, and resurrected, lived, suffered, laughed, and cried while on this earth yet, was of the same substance as God, there is something special about Jesus to my heart and soul. As in the old Gaither song, “…Jesus; there’s just something about that name. Master, Savior, Jesus, like the fragrance after the rain…”.

In Jesus, we have a brother, a Savior, and one to whom all things were made. Jesus has experienced my humanity. Jesus has taken on the pain and hate of human society to the point of the Roman Cross. In Jesus, we have a God who physically understands our sufferings and joys but has also lived them. When I fear, feel broken, or grieve, I have the comfort of the arms of Christ and know that he has been there before.

Join us tomorrow as we talk further about the joy of life in Christ!

May the Grace and Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
